Install the Nook app from the Windows Store. Launch a command line and change into the directory where you extracted the Android SDK. Run 'adb devices' and make sure your nook is showing up as a device. 
Run 'rootnook.cmd' from wherever you extracted it, the script should detect your nook is an available device in adb and enable a root shell on it. NOOK DEDRM CALIBRE PLUGIN 2016 ZIP FILE. I attempted to use the android developer kit like guides one to but after fumbling through enabling virtualization in my bios and trying to figure out why I couldn't replicate the steps that this individual suggests are simple and easy I was about to pull my hair out. 
I don't think that's acceptable and I would like to back up my books without encryption but it's not possible with the tools I have currently found unless I pay and provide my email/password to a third party. Today I installed the nook windows app to look at what I even had on there and maybe do some reading only to find that some books were no longer accessible (generated errors) and/or straight up missing from my library. I decided to access my old library today, I haven't used nook for a couple years since my old reader died and I went back to paper/audiobooks for a long while.
